Heavy rains to occur in Sikkim


Gangtok:Heavy rains are likely to occur at most places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, & Sikkim.The incessant rain since a week ago caused heavy landslides and the water level of Teesta crossed sixty feet above at 27 mile, 31 A National highway which caused heavy damage to the ongoing Teesta Hydel project being undertaken by NHPC and it is understood that the construction work is stopped till for six months. The 31 National Highway was also blocked due to heavy downpour resulting the obstruction of vehicular movement between Siliguri- Gangtok. However, the road was opened for light vehicle during the day time.In Sikkim many village roads were blocked due to landslides. In East Sikkim, the road linking to Duga Churibottey road and Duga Pacheykhani was completely disrupted, while Sang and Dupidara, Rongli- Rolep road, Pakyong- Mahcong Road too were blocked. There were landslide in South and West Sikkim as a result Melli-Naya bazar road, Melli Phong road, Melli Turuk sadam Bhanjuang roads were blocked.

Rain or thundershowers had occurred at most places in Sikkim.
