Teej Celebrations in Sikkim Concludes


GANGTOK, August 22: Teej, a festival celebrated by womenfolk for marital bliss, well-being of spouse and children and purification of own body and soul was celebrated with great joy and happiness at Nepali Sahitya Parishad here today.

The programme, organized by the State Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department, had Gangtok MLA Dorjee Namgyal as the chief guest.

Various cultural items including the attractive Sangini Dance featured the Teej celebrations here. The celebration today marked the second day of the five days long Teej celebrations that combines sumptuous feasts as well as rigid fasting.

Similarly, the festival was also celebrated at Cheuribotey under West Pendam constituency in a grand manner. The womenfolk of Cheuribotey, Samsing and surrounding areas gathered at the residence of Panchayat member Laxmi Maya Chettri and performed Maruni, Dohori song etc. The sweet dish was provided by the Panchayat member.
